Some clever people at Microsoft's Windows Mobile Team managed to integrate location based information into a moblog post at Flickr. Flickr offers a developer API so that different kinds of applications can be designed around their system. This is the best use of an moblogging API so far.
They managed to integrate Microsoft Map Point Location Server onto a smartphone which provides location based data and then send it to Flickr. This is a phone software innovation and would probably work with other moblogging services who provide an API as well.
The pictures that were taken have the location information under the picture. It doesnt look like much, but punch that into a map and it would give you a location of where the picture was taken. Whilst this is probably just a proof of concept, it marks what would be a great idea for moblogging services.
Contextual information about the picture you are viewing on moblogs is usually poorly annotated. If you could add in this location based information then it would give the uninformed user more information about where the picture was taken. This would also be good if you wanted to go to the site where the picture was taken (monuments, tourist attractions etc).
So well done to the Windows Mobile Team for this one, and lets see this deployed on all new phones!
